Civil War Sharps New Model 1863 Saddle Ring Carbine, 2nd Type, #93316, post-war altered to .50-70 CF cal. by the Sharps factory, 22'' barrel, with integral block-blade front and Lawrence patent sliding-leaf rear sights marked ''New Model 1863'' both ahead of and behind rear sight; case hardened ''Straight Breech'' receiver is fitted with a sling bar and ring on left side, and marked ''C. Sharps' Pat./Oct. 5th, 1852'' below ''R.S. Lawrence Pat./April 12th, 1859'' on right; serpentine operating lever opens the dropping-block action for single-shot cartridge loading and cleaning, with automatic ejection; steel spring-retained barrel band, trigger, and carbine-style buttplate; oil-stained walnut forend and buttstock without patchbox. Mfg'd ca. 1859-66; converted in 1867 and after. Condition is very good. Barrel is bluish-brown with scattered peppering, receiver case colors have darkened and silvered. Buttstock is smooth and sound with minor use marks and a ''DFC'' (David F. Clark) inspector's cartouche within a ribbon on left side; forearm is smooth with minor marks and two quarter-inch gouges; barrel markings were softened at time of factory refinish. Action functions smoothly; original six-groove bore is bright with defined rifling. Est.: $1,250-$2,250. (Antique)
